SYNOPSIS
In two years, the war between the regular army and general Hemetti's rebel forces, the Rapid Support Forces, has stopped the 2019 democratic revolution in Sudan. The Sudanese army, supported by Islamist militias close to former dictator Omar al-Bashir, has regained control of the northern districts of Khartoum. Khartoum is now a lifeless city. The war has killed more than 150,000 civilians and displaced more than 14 million people, including 3 million who have fled to neighbouring countries. Famine and disease are rampant... Sudan is now considered to be the site of the world's largest humanitarian crisis. This exclusive report documents the turmoil of this endless conflict, alongside the women who are living through it.
For ten years, Sara Creta has been documenting humanitarian crises and investigating the world's most pressing human rights issues. She has collaborated with the New York Times, BBC, Channel 4, Al Jazeera, Euronews, ARTE, ZDF and The New Humanitarian, among others. She is a winner of the Simon Cumbers Media Fund and the Migration Media Award. Her documentary Libya, no escape from hell was nominated for the European Press Prize and was a finalist for the Albert Londres Prize.
