SAYDNAYA, THE ASSAD'S DEATH CAMP by Sofia Amara - 2026
SYNOPSIS
From its construction in 1987 to its liberation on December 8, 2024, the history of Saydnaya prison, Syria's “death camp,” is told through the testimonies of prisoners seeking truth and justice and the torturers who worked there. This is the story of the Assad regime's “prison of horror,” a jihad laboratory overshadowed by the Nazi Aloïs Brunner, documented by previously unseen images smuggled out by prisoners over the years and by the secret archives of the military penitentiary, now in the hands of the new masters of Damascus.
Sofia Amara is a reporter specialist on the Middle East and the author of numerous award-winning reports and documentaries. Based in Lebanon for 24 years, she has covered conflicts in the region and produced numerous programmes for French media outlets (Arte, France 2, LCI, France 24, Canal+). Author of Infiltrée dans l'enfer syrien (Infiltrating Syrian Hell) and Baghdadi, calife de la terreur (Baghdadi, Caliph of Terror) (Stock), she provides journalism training for the Académie France Médias Monde and the CFPJ, and contributes to Ouest France and Le Monde.
