DONBAS BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH by Edward Kaprov - 24 minutes - 2025
A co-production by ARTE G.E.I.E.

SYNOPSIS
After Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Israeli photographer and documentary filmmaker Edward Kaprov travelled to Donbass several times to document the front line. At the heart of this new documentary is the daily struggle to survive in the midst of a never-ending large-scale war. Donbass, Between Life and Death is a raw documentary filmed close to the ravages of war, which questions the fragility of human life, the stubborn quest for meaning and the search for a purpose to hold on to when every day could be your last.

Photographer and filmmaker Edward Kaprov was born in Russia and migrated to Israel in the early 1990s. For more than twenty years, he has been practising documentary photography and collaborating with National Geographic, Geo and El País, among others. His work speaks of the shattered ideals of his adopted country and his motherland... His reports seek to illustrate the inhumanity and absurdity of the world, documenting in particular the Israeli army, Palestinian demonstrations and orphanages in Chechnya.
